This banner means Google has stopped showing your profile in Search and Maps. It's the same underlying situation as the "Not publicly visible" status, worded as a warning across the top of your profile rather than a small badge. Customers searching for you right now find nothing. Your reviews, photos, and business information are all still stored and come back when the profile republishes. The cause is usually verification, suspension, or a change you made recently, and the first step is finding out which. For clients on our GBP management services, a profile dropping out of Search and Maps is something we watch for, so we're often already diagnosing it. If you haven't given us profile access yet, send a screenshot and we'll pick it up immediately.
TL;DR
Same problem, different wording. This banner and "Not publicly visible" describe the same state.
Customers get nothing. No listing, no call button, no directions, no way to leave a review.
Check the appeals tool first. If your profile appears there, you're dealing with a suspension.
If it isn't in the appeals tool, you're almost certainly looking at a verification issue instead.
Recent edits are a common trigger. Changing your name, address, or category can pull a profile pending re-validation.
Move quickly. Every day hidden is calls you aren't getting.
What customers experience
It's worth being blunt about the impact, because the banner undersells it.
Your listing doesn't appear in Search results or on Maps, including for people searching your exact business name.
The call button is gone, along with directions and the link to your website.
Existing reviews aren't visible to the public, and nobody can leave a new one.
Your competitors fill the gap. Customers searching for your service in your area still get results. They just aren't yours.
Confirm it yourself in a private or incognito browser window, searching your business name plus your city and then checking Maps. That's what your customers see.
Work out which problem you have
Start with the appeals tool, because it splits the possibilities cleanly in two.
Open the Google Business Profile appeals tool while signed in to the account that manages the profile.
Your profile is listed there with a policy reason. You're dealing with a suspension. Read Suspended before you appeal, because appealing without fixing the cause usually comes back denied.
Your profile isn't listed there. This isn't a penalty. It's almost certainly verification, either unfinished or still processing. See Verification required or Processing your verification.
Then check the owner's inbox, including spam and promotions. Google sends notices from [email protected]. Since 2024 those emails usually name a broad policy category and link to a support article, which narrows things further even though it won't name your exact trigger.
What commonly causes it
A recent edit to core information. Changing your business name, primary category, or street address can pull a profile out of public view while Google re-validates it. This catches people right after a rebrand or an office move.
A verification that didn't pass. If you submitted a video or documents and they didn't satisfy Google, the profile stays hidden and you'll usually be offered another attempt.
An address setup that conflicts with your business type. If customers don't come to your business address, the address should be hidden and only service areas listed. If they do, you need permanent on-site signage. If both are true, you're a hybrid, and the location has to be staffed during your posted hours. Home services businesses get pulled for claiming a storefront at a shop nobody is sitting in.
A business name with extra keywords. Your profile name should match your real-world signage and registration, not your target search terms.
A report. Anyone can flag a listing, and Google reviews what gets flagged.
What to do now
Screenshot the banner and anything Google shows alongside it.
Screenshot an incognito search so there's a record of what customers see.
Check the appeals tool and note whether your profile appears.
Check the owner's inbox for anything from Google.
Write down what changed in the last month, including staff changes and new software connected to the profile.
Send it all to us.
What to avoid: don't create a replacement profile, don't make more edits, and don't file repeat appeals. All three make the situation harder to unwind.
Frequently asked questions
Is my business gone from Google permanently?
No. This is a hold, not a deletion. Profiles come back once the underlying cause is resolved, and your reviews and photos come back with them.
Why didn't Google email me?
Sometimes it does and the message lands in spam or promotions. Sometimes it doesn't, particularly when the cause is verification rather than a policy action. A missing email doesn't tell you much either way, so check the appeals tool rather than relying on your inbox.
Can I still get calls from Google?
Not from your profile. If you run Google Ads or Local Services Ads, those are separate systems and may still be running. Your organic Maps presence is what's affected.
Are my Local Services Ads still running?
Check them today rather than assuming. Local Services Ads are built on top of your Business Profile, so a profile that's been pulled can take the ads with it. Plenty of owners discover the profile problem only because the ad leads dried up first.
Local Services Ads also run their own licensing, insurance, and screening checks independently of your Business Profile, so the two can fail for different reasons. Confirming the state of both is part of what we do when a client reports this.
How fast can this be fixed?
Verification issues can clear within a few business days. Suspensions depend on the appeal, and Google doesn't publish a turnaround time. Anyone who quotes you a specific number of days is guessing.
Should I pause my marketing while this is sorted?
No. Your website, ads, and other listings are unaffected and are doing more work than usual while the profile is down. If anything, this is the moment they matter most.
Still stuck?
Send your account manager the screenshots and the appeals tool result. We'll confirm which problem you have and take it from there, including handling the appeal if that's what it needs.
