New Address Readiness Checklist

Before starting the process for updating the address of your Google Business Profile and initiating video verification, please be aware of the following important details:

  1. Confirm the full physical address, including the unit number if it's a multi-unit location.

  2. Fixed signage is needed for the video verification.

  3. Ensure that you are logged into or have access to the Google account linked to your Google Business Profile.

  4. Keep your documents updated with the new address. These documents could be required during the verification process.

After the review and your email confirmation, Digital Shift will put in the request for this update.

Video Verification Process

To begin the video verification process for your Google Business Profile, adhere to the following steps:
  1. Preparation: Make sure you have a mobile device equipped with a camera; you'll need it for the video verification process.

  2. Access your Business Profile: You can do this through the Google Maps app or a mobile browser. Simply search for the name of your business and select it from the auto-complete options that are displayed.

  3. Begin Verification: Scroll until you find the "Get verified" option and select it. You might be prompted to enter your business address at this stage.

  4. Choose Video Verification: If video verification is presented as the only option, go ahead and select it. Google will provide you with guidance on how to create an effective verification video.

  5. Grant Permissions: To proceed with the video recording, you will need to give the necessary permissions for camera and microphone access on your device.

  6. Record your Video: It's time to record a continuous video that's approximately 30 seconds that showcases your business location, any signage, and other aspects that help prove the legitimacy of your business. Be sure to follow any on-screen instructions provided by Google during this process.

  7. Video Submission: After recording, you need to upload the video through the app. The review process by Google can take up to five business days.

  8. Wait for Confirmation: Post the video review, you will receive a notification informing you of the verification status of your Business Profile.

Remember, the video should be succinct while accurately portraying your business location and operations.

To successfully complete video verification, it is important to plan ahead and ensure that your video is a continuous shot without any edits and includes:
  • Exterior: Clearly show the exterior of your business, including the exterior of the location showing the unit or address, the entrance, etc.
  • Signage: Include the fixed signage that displays the name of the business. It should match the name of your Google Business Profile.
  • Interior and Operations: Provide a brief view of the interior to demonstrate that the business is operational. This can include showing the workspace, products, or products/services being offered.
  • Documents: Display any business documents that show the business name and the address like a business license (especially if displayed on the wall at your location), certificate of insurance, utility bill, or lease agreement.
  • Stock and branded equipment: For example, vans parked outside of the building, tools and equipment stored on premises, business cards with matching business name and address, etc.
  • Proof of management: For example, office/desk area with CSR, meeting room with stats tracking board, etc.

The process involves navigating to your Google Business Profile on a mobile device, tapping "get verified," and following the steps to record and upload your video. It may take up to five business days for Google to review your video. If video verification doesn't work, we can open a support case with the Google Business Profile support team.

Supporting Documentation

Please note that in the past, Google typically would need 2 photos of the inside (staffed workspace and tools and equipment) and 2 of the outside (showing vans, exterior signage, street address) and the business name and address, including a unit number (if a shared address), but video verification has become a popular method for verifying Google Business Profiles (GBPs).

If a case needs to be opened to help support your location verification, Google support typically would need at least the following:

  1. Proof of business operation at the address: A utility bill displaying the same business name and address as your registration/license. Utilities may include any of the following: electricity, phone, gas, water, sewage, trash, recycling, TV, internet, or lease agreement
  2. Proof of business registration at the address: Your Business Registration/License displaying the business name and address that matches the listing. Accepted documents include official business registration, articles of incorporation, trade name registration, business license, or tax certificates.
Please note the full business name, address, phone number and website should match across all documents including the business card and signage.
